“For whatever we lose
(like a you, or a me)
It is always ourselves
that we find
in the sea”
mau harrison works from studios in the UK, US and France composing assemblages of found objects, particularly from boat wrecks and from the sea.
Les assemblages coming to the wonderful bijoux Metanoia galerie are from the French and Italian Rivieras.
Using so-called surrealist methods, she is here exploring themes of patina, age, mortality, and sustainability, sometimes with a whimsical twist.
The palette is intentionally restrained. Pieces are arranged to speak to each other as well as to us. Each assemblage is from a particular day and time.
In a world of chaos, the act of collecting, of composing and of creating forces one to look, and look, and look again.
In the best art, as in any act of relating, one passes by and sees something new and satisfying each time. mau harrison
